| Applied Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition Studies
Responsable: DENNIS HOOD, MICHAEL Resumen: Responsable de esta línea: MICHAEL D. HOOD. Sea cual sea la futura profesión de los estudiantes (ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería, matemáticas o negocios), siempre tendrán que hacer propuestas para defender un punto de vista aportando buenas razones. De hecho, todo conocimiento es en última instancia una interpretación sensata de los hechos. La más sólida y firme interpretación de esos hechos constituye el fundamento de cada disciplina académica. Toda interpretación comparte tres dimensiones fundamentales: se produce dentro de un contexto social de preocupaciones compartidas y conocimiento común, debe necesariamente emplear una metodología deductiva, y dicha metodología es el entimema. En efecto, el entimema encarna ese proceso universal que se activa cada vez que alguien hace una propuesta, ya sea en una conferencia sobre física nuclear o en la mesa durante la cena. Este proceso universal implica: (1) el tema en cuestión, una preocupación compartida tanto por el locutor como por su público; (2) la propuesta en sí, o respuesta del locutor al tema planteado; (3) la suposición, la base de saberes sobre el argumento, extraída de valores comunes, conocimiento y experiencia; y (4) la justificación o estrategia argumentativa, que conecta la propuesta (2, la postura del locutor) con la suposición (3, lo que cree el público). Todos los estudiantes deben comprender y ser capaces de utilizar eficaz y eficientemente los componentes de este proceso dinámico. Del 14 al 18 de octubre de 2019 el profesor Hood impartió un seminario en la Facultad de Filología de la ULPGC, cuyo título es "Argumentative writing". Whatever profession students become involved in, whether it's science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or business, at some point they will need to make an argument, to substantiate a perspective with good reasons. In fact, one could argue that all knowledge is ultimately an interpretation of facts, and those interpretations, which have been the most persuasive, constitute the substance of the various academic disciplines. All interpretations share three fundamental facts: they occur within a social context of shared concerns and common knowledge, they must of necessity employ a deductive methodology, and that deductive methodology is the enthymeme. The enthymeme embodies a universal process that comes into play anytime someone makes an argument, whether it's at a conference on nuclear physics or at the dinner table. This universal process involves (1) the question at issue, a shared concern by both writer and audience; (2) the assertion, the writer's response to the question at issue; (3) the assumption, the shared basis for argument, drawn from common values, knowledge, and experience; and (4) the because clause or argumentative strategy, which connects the assertion (the writer's stance) to the assumption (what the audience believes). All students should understand and be able to effectively use the components of this dynamic process. From October 14 to 18, 2019 Professor Hood gave a seminar at the Faculty of Philology (ULPGC), whose title is "Argumentative writing". | Lingüística aplicada a la didáctica de la Traducción e Interpretación Alemán-Español
Responsable: GARCÍA ÁLVAREZ, ANA MARÍA Resumen: Esta línea de investigación se centra en la mejora del aprendizaje de la traducción y de la interpretación, y en concreto indaga en la metacognición del traductor e intérprete en el aula, por lo que se enfoca en la investigación de los procesos cognitivos de la traducción e interpretación con el fin de crear una metodología holística que contribuya a la reflexión consciente y al razonamiento del traductor e intérprete - estudiante sobre su propio proceso. En esta línea se trabajan dos ámbitos fundamentales: a) reflexión teórica y práctica sobre la metacognición humana en relación con el razonamiento argumentativo consciente del proceso de la traducción e interpretación y b) estudio empírico de los procesos de traducción e interpretación y desarrollo metodológico de modelos cualitativos de análisis de dichos procesos. | Lingüística aplicada a la didáctica del análisis de productos audiovisuales
Responsable: VEGA VEGA, JORGE JUAN Resumen: Responsable de esta línea: RUTH Z. YUSTE ALONSO. Esta línea de investigación se centra en el desarrollo de la competencia mediática de estudiantes de educación secundaria y superior con el fin de enseñarles a aproximarse a los productos mediáticos, interactuar con ellos y consumirlos de manera crítica. Si bien es cierto que nos encontramos a diario con una gran variedad de contenido de carácter mediático, rara vez nos detenemos a reflexionar sobre el impacto que estos ejercen en nuestra vida y nuestro modo de ver y comprender el mundo que nos rodea. Ya sea por ocio o por trabajo, resulta imprescindible saber `leer' dichos productos mediáticos y familiarizarnos con sus marcos de referencia a fin de poder reconocer su significado subyacente, intenciones y efectos. A partir de los trabajos de la crítica feminista en materia mediática, nuestro objetivo es desarrollar herramientas y materiales que permitan adquirir a los estudiantes las habilidades necesarias para navegar con éxito en el hipermediatizado mundo actual. Every day we are exposed to a wide range of media content, yet we rarely reflect upon the impact these artifacts have on our life and the way we see and comprehend the world. Whether for leisure or work, it is important to learn how to `read¿ media products and familiarize ourselves with their frames of reference in order to recognize their underlying meanings, intentions, and effects. Drawing upon feminist media research, we aim to develop tools and materials that will equip students with the necessary skills to successfully navigate today¿s hyper-mediatized world. | Lingüística aplicada al análisis de productos mediáticos
Responsable: VEGA VEGA, JORGE JUAN Resumen: Responsable de esta línea: RUTH Z. YUSTE ALONSO. Esta línea de investigación se centra en el análisis de productos mediáticos desde una perspectiva feminista con el fin de estudiar los discursos y las representaciones de género, así como otras categorías identitarias interseccionales, que circulan en el imaginario colectivo en un mundo dominado por la imagen. En concreto, prestamos especial atención al uso de ciertas convenciones genéricas y estilísticas que fomentan la consolidación o la subversión de dichos discursos y representaciones culturales. Dicho enfoque no solo nos permite dilucidar tradiciones, tendencias y cambios, sino también reflexionar sobre los aparatos teóricos a nuestra disposición para examinar nuestros modos de ver y comprender el mundo circundante. | Pragmática, Análisis del discurso y Retórica Argumentativa
Responsable: VEGA VEGA, JORGE JUAN Resumen: Esta línea se centra en el concepto de entimema o proceso de inferencia natural en la comunicación, estudiada desde el ámbito de la cognición, la expresión y la emoción que suscita. A partir de ella se procede al análisis de los contenidos implícitos. Desde una perspectiva lingüística, retórica y literaria, se ha investigado el entimema en la ficción narrativa, en textos de François Rabelais, Michel Butor y Gabriel García Márquez. Asimismo, hemos explorado este proceso en su relación con la elocuencia poética, lo inefable y lo sublime (Arthur Rimbaud). De este trabajo investigador han resultado primeramente la publicación de la Tesis Doctoral, L'Enthymème romanesque. Essais de Logique fictionnelle (Lyon, 1994) y luego la publicación de los libros: L'Enthymème. He has studied the romanesque enthymeme at a linguistic, rhetorical, and literary level in novels, particularly in the works by Michel Butor, and Gabriel García Márquez. Responsable: VENTURA RAGNOLI, DANIELA Resumen: El papel de la inferencia natural en la comunicación está siendo uno de los intereses prioritarios. Lo que explica que hayamos colaborado, como autora, en la elaboración de dos trabajos colectivos: Del razonamiento a la argumentación. teoría y práctica de las destrezas discursivas en la nueva sociedad del conocimiento (Peter Lang, 2012) et The Essential Enthymeme. Propositions for Educating Students in a Modern World (Peter Lang, 2015). En los capítulos 7 (2012) y 8 (2015), se analiza el concepto de entimema, proceso de inferencia natural de la comunicación, en el discurso publicitario. Analiza asimismo dicho proceso en la literatura y, en particular modo, en la novela policiaca (véase capítulo 10, 2015). En la actualidad, estamos trabajando sobre la inferencia entimemática en el discurso de ficción (novela policiaca).
