| Caracterización espectroscópica e interferométrica de plasmas de fusión nuclear
Responsable: FLORIDO HERNÁNDEZ, RICARDO JESÚS Resumen: La fusión nuclear por confinamiento inercial (FCI) se postula desde hace décadas -y máxime tras la demostración experimental en diciembre de 2022 de la ganancia neta de energía- como una prometedora fuente de energía limpia, sostenible e inagotable. El trabajo se centra en técnicas de espectroscopía e interferometría de rayos-X para diagnosticar las condiciones extremas de densidad y temperatura que alcanza la materia (en estado de plasma) en escenarios de interés para la FCI, con énfasis en esquemas alternativos de ignición (como la ignición por onda de choque o la fusión inercial asistida por campos magnéticos). Mediante una caracterización espacio-temporal detallada pretendemos, por ejemplo, comprender mejor la dinámica del frente de ablación-compresión o los fenómenos de transporte de energía en una implosión. Nuestra investigación se apoya en conceptos fundamentales de la física atómica de plasmas densos y calientes, la cinética-atómica colisional-radiativa y la teoría de ensanchamiento de líneas espectrales por efecto Stark-Zeeman. Estos aspectos teóricos se integran en simulaciones computacionales avanzadas que hacen uso de métodos Monte-Carlo, de dinámica-molecular o de algoritmos de aprendizaje automático. Summary: Inertial confinement fusion (ICF) has been proposed for decades, and especially after the experimental demonstration of net energy gain in December 2022, as a promising source of clean, sustainable, and virtually limitless energy. Our research aims to contribute to its advancement by exploring alternative ignition schemes, such as shock-ignition or magnetized inertial fusion. Specifically, our work focuses on developing X-ray spectroscopy and interferometry techniques to diagnose the extreme conditions of density and temperature reached by plasma matter in scenarios relevant to ICF. Through detailed spatiotemporal characterization, we seek to better understand the dynamics of ablation-compression fronts or energy transport phenomena in implosions. Our investigation is grounded in fundamental concepts of atomic physics in dense and hot plasmas, collisional-radiative atomic-kinetics, and Stark-Zeeman spectral line broadening theory. These theoretical aspects are integrated into advanced computational simulations employing Monte Carlo methods, molecular dynamics, and machine learning algorithms.
